SATURDAY A.M. PREVIEW:

Former featherweight champion Orlando Salido, who lost almost a year of his career when suspended due to a positive test for steroids, is featured in a 10-rounder against Panama’s Renan Acosta on tonight’s PPV show.

This looks like a showcase type of fight leading towards another world title chance for Salido, who is clearly one of the wold’s top 126-pounders.

I was very impressed with Salido last December when he stopped Hector Julio Avila in six rounds on Telefutura. He is strong, fast and an excellent puncher, one of those young veterans who can really fight.

Acosta is a decent-quality opponent for Salido. The 25-year-old has won his last three fights and his five losses in 26 bouts were all by decision, including going the full 12 rounds with Chris John in a championship challenge in Indonesia.

I have not seen Acosta but he looks durable. If Salido can stop him it will be quite a statement. The Mexican fighter looks too powerful and too accomplished for Acosta, and while a points win is suggested by the records a stoppage victory for Salido would not surprise me too much.

RESULT: Salido TKO4.
