SATURDAY A.M. PREVIEW:

Rising Filipino 122-pounder Bernabe Concepcion makes his second consecutive appearance in Mexico when he meets Torrence Daniels in a 10-rounder on tonight’s Chavez-Loriga PPV show.

Concepcion had a difficult time in December when winning a unanimous but hard-fought decision over the tenacious Juan Ruiz. In that fight he was meeting an opponent who stayed right on top of him and kept him backed up on the ropes for long moments. He meets a different type of boxer entirely in Daniels, a 33-year-old from Colorado Springs who is a slick-boxing type.

Daniels had an outstanding amateur career. He was a military champion while serving in the army, captured a national Golden Gloves title and was the U.S. Olympic alternate.

As a professional, though, Daniels, has sadly slipped into the “opponent” category, with three losses in 15 fights. I saw him against the Puerto Rican Jonathon Oquendo in Las Vegas, when he was game but well beaten — I made the note that Daniels was a nice boxer with a sharp left hook but Oquendo was much too strong for him.

As I would consider Concepcion a stronger and better fighter than Oquendo, it looks to me as if Daniels is going to have a rough night. I think this bout is essentially a showcase for Concepcion and even though the records indicate a full-distance fight I expect him to overpower Daniels around the eighth round.

RESULT: Concepcion wins in two rounds.
